maybelline LE color plush quad in olive martini. review and swatches.

So the other day I was killing time in Walgreens before work and seeing if any new LE collections had come out. Well of course not..it was nothing but cheap cologne sets lining the display aisles. Until I saw, tucked away in a corner, the Maybelline Fall 2012 Scene on the Runway LEcollection. Really?

Count me excited and annoyed. I spent way too much time hunting this collection down, looking from store to store and finding nothing. And now here it is, sitting unassuming on a bottom aisle, unloved. There was not one but two Olive Martini quads! Two! Also sitting untouched was a Cozy Cashmere.

I had seen this collection and ignored it of course until I saw swatches and then it was gone and I seriously had to own it. Ahh first world problems. Anyway I snagged two of each and an extra Olive Martini that will, I'm sure, need to be given away to you guys as it's gorgeous. On to the photos..
This quad is gorgeous! Yeah ok so the shades may be mostly dupeable but what I love the most is how they paired these shades. That and the ubiquitous MAC Club/Too Faced Label Whore etc. shadow (third from the left) is seriously the prettiest and best duochrome version I've seen in any incarnation of the reddish brown/teal reflect shade.

I own several versions of the third shade..mostly because I hunt them down. When I was about 13 there was a mineral cosmetics kiosk in the mall and this reddish/brown/teal pigment was the first makeup I ever bought. Yep the color is nothing innovative(it's been a looong time since I was 13). In any case I have a soft spot for it and this quad did it justice.

As for the other shades, perhaps I'm just not imaginative, but I never would have thought to pair them. The two middle shades are genius together..especially over a decent primer. The last shade threw me a tad but only because every time I pick this quad up I want to only focus on the middle two shades and not muddy up the look.

That being said the last color is beautiful..incredibly pigmented and smooth..it's a pretty blackish brown with red and golden shimmer. Great for fall/winter..as the whole quad is. The only underperformer was the first pale champagne shade..it lacks pigment and applies chalky for me. Don't let this deter you from seeking the palette out in your local drugstore. You can probably still find it and trust me...you want it.

I will buy this palette too!
How come I didn't see this!
And if you like the 3rd duo tone brown try Wet n wild comfortzone palette which has great 8 colors. It is very cheap but high quality pigmented. love that palette too.
